👨‍⚖️ Fluoride's Day In Court!

Finally, the EPA and fluoride have had their day in court!

After a 7-year legal battle trying to bring light to the health risks of consuming fluorinate water, Senior Judge Edward Chen stated:

The Court finds that fluoridation of water at 0.7 milligrams per liter (“mg/L”) – the level presently considered “optimal” in the United States – poses an unreasonable risk of reduced IQ in children…the Court finds there is an unreasonable risk of such injury, a risk sufficient to require the EPA to engage with a regulatory response. (emphasis mine)

Fluoride has been commonly added to public water supplies across America and many other countries, ever since the city of Grand Rapids, Michigan started doing so in 1945. and dental products to prevent tooth decay.

While very low levels of fluoride may be beneficial for dental health, growing evidence suggests that excessive or long-term fluoride exposure may pose significant health risks.

Here’s why fluoride is considered harmful when consumed in higher quantities:

1️⃣ Skeletal Fluorosis

  • Bone health issues: Chronic exposure to high levels of fluoride can lead to skeletal fluorosis, a condition that causes bones to become abnormally dense, brittle, and prone to fractures. This condition is most common in regions with naturally high fluoride levels in water.

2️⃣ Dental Fluorosis

  • Teeth discoloration and damage: Overexposure to fluoride during tooth development can lead to dental fluorosis, which causes white spots or brown stains on the teeth and weakens the enamel. This risk is particularly concerning for children who consume excessive fluoride from water or dental products.

3️⃣ Thyroid Suppression

  • Thyroid function: Fluoride can interfere with iodine absorption, which is crucial for healthy thyroid function. This can lead to hypothyroidism, especially in individuals with iodine deficiency, resulting in symptoms like fatigue, weight gain, and mood changes.

4️⃣ Cognitive Impairment and IQ Reductions

  • Brain development and neurotoxicity: Several studies have shown that high fluoride exposure during pregnancy and early childhood may negatively affect cognitive function and lower IQ. For example, a Harvard meta-analysis (2012) of 27 studies found that children in areas with high fluoride levels had lower IQ scores than those in low-fluoride areas.
  • A 2019 study in JAMA Pediatrics found that children exposed to higher fluoride levels in utero had IQ scores that were, on average, 4-5 points lower, particularly in boys. Researchers believe fluoride may cross the placenta and disrupt brain development by accumulating in brain tissues or affecting neurotransmitter signaling.
  • Neurotoxicity mechanisms: Fluoride may induce oxidative stress, inflammation, and interfere with proper neuronal function, which could explain the consistent findings of cognitive impairment in fluoride-exposed populations.

5️⃣ Endocrine Disruption

  • Hormonal imbalances: Fluoride has been classified as an endocrine disruptor, meaning it can interfere with hormones like insulin, thyroid hormones, and reproductive hormones. This can contribute to a variety of metabolic and reproductive health issues.

6️⃣ Kidney Stress

  • Impaired excretion: The kidneys play a crucial role in eliminating fluoride from the body. People with compromised kidney function are less able to excrete fluoride, leading to its accumulation in bones and tissues, increasing the risk of fluorosis.

7️⃣ Accumulation in the Body

  • Long-term buildup: Fluoride can accumulate in the body over time, especially in bones and teeth. Long-term exposure to fluoride, even in moderate amounts, raises concerns about chronic health effects due to this gradual accumulation.

While fluoride has been credited with reducing cavities, its potential long-term effects on human health are evident.

From cognitive impairment and thyroid dysfunction to skeletal and dental fluorosis, excessive fluoride exposure poses a variety of risks.

And at the end of the day, cavities are not caused by fluoride deficiency, so there's no logical reason to put it in drinking water.

I’ve always had a love/hate attitude towards “detox” programs. I hate all the nonsense out there. Gimmicky programs, confusion about what constitutes detox, extreme and unnecessary approaches like water fasts and juice cleanses. The belief that every reaction to something is a "detox reaction." It can get absurd. But I do love how, when done right, a well-structured, holistic detox program does wonders for your health. In a short time, you can experience: Improved energy levels Mental clarity...
